NERIWALM
The North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management was established on 23rd December 1989 as a registered society under the aegis of North Eastern Council, Ministry of Home Affairs (now under Department of Development of North Eastern Region), Government of India. On 1st April,2012 an MoU of transfer was signed between MoWR, RD and GR and NEC and presently NERIWALM is under Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Govt. of India. It works towards generating local specific and problem oriented technologies through its different disciplinary divisions and caters the requirement of all the states of North Eastern Region namely, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Mehgalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. Institute made commendable progress in various aspects of water resources management, crop-soil nutrient management, watershed management, mapping of water and land resources, command area development, irrigation and allied sectors. To outreach the people the institute organized dissemination programmes in the form of trainings, workshops and enrich knowledge by organizing seminars and consulting meetings. Since its inception the institute has grown from strength to strength and has gained confidence of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. The institute desires to move ahead with more activities as guided by our knowledgeable mentors.
CWC
Central Water Commission is a premier Technical Organisation in the country in the field of water resources and is charged with the general responsibilities of initiating, coordinating and furthering, in consultation with the State Governments concerned, schemes for control, conservation and utilization of water resources throughout the country, for purpose of Flood Control, Irrigation, Navigation, Drinking Water Supply and Water Power Development.
Central Water Commission CWC is headed by a Chairman, with the status of Ex-Officio Secretary to the Government of India. The work of the Commission is divided among 3 wings namely, Designs and Research (D&R) Wing, River Management (RM) Wing and Water Planning and Projects (WP&P) Wing.
Altogether there are nineteen organizations located at headquarters in New Delhi and thirteen organizations spread over various locations in India.
CGWB
Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) is a multi-disciplinary scientific organization of the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti Government of India. Central Ground Water Board is the National Apex Agency entrusted with the responsibilities of providing scientific inputs for management, exploration, monitoring, assessment, augmentation and regulation of ground water resources of the country. The mandate of Central Ground Water Board is to” Develop and disseminate technologies and monitor and implement national policies for the scientific and sustainable development and management of India’s ground water resources, including their exploration, assessment, conservation, augmentation, protection from pollution, and distribution, based on principles of economic and ecological efficiency and equity”.
Brahmaputra Board
The Brahmaputra Board was set up under the Ministry of Irrigation (now renamed as Department of Water Resources, RD&GR, Ministry of Jal Shakti) by the Government of India under an Act of Parliament called ‘The Brahmaputra Board Act, 1980 (46 of 1980)’ for the planning and integrated implementation of measures for the control of floods and bank erosion in the Brahmaputra Valley and for matters connected therewith. The Board office started functioning with Headquarters at Guwahati with effect from 11th January 1982. The jurisdiction of the Board covers entire Brahmaputra and Barak Valley, spreading in all the States of the North Eastern Region including Sikkim and part of West Bengal falling under Brahmaputra Basin.
NWA
National Water Academy (NWA), Pune under Central Water Commission, which is an attached office of Department of Water Resources, RD & GR (DoWR, RD & GR), Ministry of Jal Shakti is functioning as ‘Centre of Excellence’ in the field of training and capacity building of professionals and all other Stakeholders.
NWA, Pune is a Central Training Institute (CTI) mandated to conduct Induction Training Program for Central Water Engineering Services Group ‘A’& Group ‘B’ Officers; Training Programs for Group A & Group B Officers; Capacity Building for Stakeholders in the field of Water Resources Development and Management; core area trainings; training on areas of emerging technologies, purpose-oriented training; Mass Awareness Programs for School Teachers; NGOs; Media Professionals, PRI’s etc; Demand Based Programs for Indian and Foreign Nationals etc. In addition, objectives of the Academy include assistance to State Govt institutes for their specific training needs and collaboration with international agencies for training & other purposes. NWA, for over last 33 years, is addressing the wider training needs of water resources professionals and other stakeholders.
RGNGWTRI
Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Ground Water Training and Research was established at Raipur as a training wing of the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India during the IXth Five Year Plan and has been continuously functioning since 1997. Establishment of Rajiv Gandhi National Ground Water Training and Research Institute has a national role in conducting training courses for ground water resource specialists. The mandate of the institute is to develop and disseminate technologies, and monitor and implement national policies for the Scientific and Sustainable development and management of India’s Ground Water Resources, including their exploration, assessment, conservation, augmentation, protection from pollution and distribution, based on principles of economic and ecological efficiency and equity.
NIH
National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) is a premier Research and Development organization under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India. It was established as an autonomous society in 1978 with its headquarters at Roorkee. The main objectives of NIH are to undertake, aid, promote and coordinate systematic and scientific work in all aspects of hydrology. The Institute was declared as an S&T organization in 1987.
ICAR-IIWM
ICAR-IIWM is an esteemed research institution under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It specializes in agricultural water management, focusing on research, training, and extension activities. The institute plays a crucial role in developing sustainable water management practices for agriculture, addressing challenges like water scarcity, pollution, and climate change.
Irrigation Department, Govt. of Assam
The Irrigation Department under the Government of Assam is responsible for managing and developing irrigation infrastructure in the state. It plays a vital role in ensuring adequate water supply for agriculture, particularly during dry seasons. The department oversees various irrigation projects, including canals, dams, and reservoirs, to support agricultural production and rural development in Assam.
